Beauty Secret From the

Ancient Mayans

Anti-Aging mask and so much more!

The story goes that Tepezcohuite was rediscovered when a series of gas explosions near Mexico City in 1984 left thousands of people badly burned and the Mexican Red Cross was too short of supplies to help them. Word went out that something was needed to help a large number of people recover from serious burns and that’s when Tepezcohuite was rediscovered by the modern world.

The ancient Mayans had used Tepezcohuite for more than ten centuries to assist in healing many types of skin problems and as a powerful, age-defying beauty secret.

The ‘magic skin tree’, Tepezcohuite (Mimosa Tenuiflora) is a thorny tree with a wide distribution, but it is only in very localized areas of Chiapas, Mexico that it yields its ultimate potential. It’s the bark where the magic is. It is known for its 24 hour healing of severe burns, cuts and abrasions, anti fungal, bacterial, and an anti viral agent. All things important to helping you restore your skin.

Our first thought was to make a moisturizer out of it. But in order to put enough of the ingredient in to do anything a moisturizer would be unpleasant to use and would be dark red in color. We wanted it to absorb into the skin where it could do the most good. So we thought why not a mask? An absorbing mask?

Absorbing Mask? Most masks you wash off. This mask mostly does absorb into the skin, depending, of course, on how much you use. I massaged and exfoliated it into my skin. Massaging helps the facial muscles stay fit. It feels a bit grainy at first, but then the magic disappearance happens. Unlike other Tepezcohuite products where most of it is washed off, this absorbs into your skin. Almost all the dark red color just sinks into the skin. Just wash with our natural soap after 5 to 30 minutes.

How does it feel? I can’t quite explain how different my skin feels except to say: pretty amazing. I guess I would report my skin is softer with more substance. Thin skin is aging skin. This makes the skin feel thicker. Tighter too. The best comparison I can think of, is to our prickly pear moisturizer. I also noticed small cuts and abrasions seem to heal faster. I’m interested to see when we get the first comments about burns.

  • Acne? Tepezcohuite is considered an effective acne treatment.

  • Also if your hair is short, try it on your scalp which in turns helps your hair.

  • Burns and cuts promotes rapid healing

  • Scarring too!

  • Under the eyes gently massage, close eyes tight, keep out of your eyes.

  • 6% Hyaluronic acid serum

  • Allantoin

  • 4 fluid ounces(118 mL)

  • Comes with a free bar of our Shea butter soap (default) or if you prefer let us know and we’ll switch you to a bar of our olive oil Green soap.

  • This product is more than just Tepezcohuite(be sure and read the ingredients)

  • Pregnancy or nursing? No! There are not too many products on the planet that will claim to be safe during pregnancy or nursing. Mainly because there is no testing being done on humans during pregnancy. We just don’t know.

Ingredients: In order of prominence.

Olive Leaf infused into Reverse Osmosis Purified Water: Wounds heal faster with olive leaf, according to a study published in a 2011 issue of “Journal of Medicinal Foods.” In the animal study, wounds treated with olive leaf extract showed 87 percent increased closure and 35 percent better strength compared to wounds treated with a commercial ointment. High quantities of antioxidants that were present in a water extract added to the healing qualities as well, say the researchers, who identified a compound called secoiridoid oleuropein as the main active ingredient in olive leaf. Similar results have been reported on humans.

Reverse Osmosis is the gold standard of water. Obviously we wanted fast absorption. Using a water with any hard water components or contaminants would slow down this absorption. Most companies use ‘purified’ water. Which may or may not be as good. Might seem like a minor point, but I saw a huge difference in the quality of our products when we switched from ‘just purified’ about 15 years ago. Now we only use R-O Water.

Hyaluronic acid serum. We use this ingredient correctly. Anything much over 100 degrees F and this ingredient is gone. Most companies just add the powder during production. So even though it is on the label, it really isn’t there. First we make a serum in pure reverse osmosis purified water. This takes a few days at a specific low temperature. It turns into a jell/serum. Then we add the serum at the end of the product mixing. When the temperature is below 100 degrees F. Any other way and the ingredient is ineffective. This is very difficult for big manufacturers to do when they are mixing and pouring at high temperatures.

The magic of this ingredient lies in its ability to retain moisture; it’s considered to have a greater capacity to hold moisture than any other natural or synthetic polymer. In fact, one gram of hyaluronic acid is able to hold up to six liters of water!

This is important with regard to aging because one of the hallmarks of youthful skin is its moisture content.

As we age, our skin loses moisture, resulting in a loss of firmness and pliability.
Hyaluronic acid can improve your skin’s moisture content and at the same time strengthen skin’s barrier; that is, the outer layers of your skin. A healthy barrier looks and feels softer, smoother, and plumper—all hallmarks of younger-looking skin! But, with hyaluronic acid, that’s not all you get—there are many additional benefits beyond just a more youthful appearance.

We know that just about everything, from sun damage and acne to sensitive skin and rosacea, can lead to a damaged barrier, so repairing skin’s barrier with skin-identical ingredients, like hyaluronic acid (as detailed in this article), can go a long way toward fixing, or at least minimizing, those issues, which means it’s helpful for all skin types. Its lightweight texture isn’t an issue for oily skin, and it’s gentle enough that it isn’t a problem for sensitive skin.
Even better: Hyaluronic acid also provides antioxidant defense against free-radical damage, and reduces inflammation. Now that’s what we call a multitasking anti-aging ingredient!

Tepezcohuite (Mimosa Tenuiflora) As you can see this is a primary ingredient. It is standard practice for companies to name a product after a particular ingredient, but use so little in it as to become ineffective. Not us.

Vegetable Glycerin: We never use animal derived ingredients. Just a note for our vegetarian friends: If it doesn’t say ‘vegetable’ glycerin on the label, it is animal derived.

Stearic Acid a vegetable wax that helps to make the product creamy and helps combine oils and water.

Kaolin Clay: cosmetic Variety from the UK

Shea Butter: We use the best directly from Africa

Cetyl Alcohol. This is actually another vegetable wax. A solid.

Golden Jojoba Oil. Jojoba closely matches the lipids in your skin. it’s not actually an oil but a wax ester. You’ll only find this in the best products.

Emulsifying Wax, a vegetable wax when used at the right temperature combines oils and water into a true fast absorbing moisturizer. This is not xanthan gum or algin or seaweed. Those are thickeners and make fake moisturizers.

Argan Oil: Another premium vegetable oil from the Moroccan dessert.

Macadamia Nut Oil. A premium Oil from Australia. We use a high end variety.

Hemp Seed Oil. No worries here. THC free. Very good skin care oil. Virgin Oil.

Mowrah butter: High end butter. I love this butter for the soft feel it gives a product. We use this in our shave butter.

Aloe Vera: very good skin care ingredient.

Bentonite Clay. The best masks use the two clays we use.

Allantoin: Allantoin is a naturally occurring nitrogenous compound used as a skin conditioning agent.

Germall plus (diazolidinyl Urea, 3-Iodo-2-propylbutylcarbarmate) less than one percent. Vegetable derived. Proven Safe and effective. Paraben Free.

Optiphum: another naturally derive preservative.

Natural Essential Oils. lavender, blood orange, ylang ylang (not overpowering)

pH neutral (pH 7) Why is this important? Practically every skin care product on the market is acidic. We believe a lot of people are suffering with an overuse syndrome of too much acid. Nature loves neutral. Ask any experienced gardener how hard it is to grow vegetables in acidic soil. Your blood is neutral. Most of your body is. This whole story of the ‘acid mantle’ is unverifiable.

5 of 5 skip the powdery clay and go with this November 5, 2023

I bought some of this in my last "Carley's batch" and have not used it yet because I like to try some of the new things in a really simple routine to see what works.  But I know from past experience that this mask works for me. I like to alternate it with the elderflower mask as a weekly thing. I used to buy bentonite clay and mix it up and use that - but it was messy and wasteful and dried my skin out and caused problems. This mask is quite the opposite. Instead of leaving it on until your face cracks; you work it in like a little facial massage. Feels really good.

You will not believe how nice your skin feels after using this mask. The color and texture threw me a bit at first. It's a little grainy and it's purple - sort of. But, wow, does it feel good on your skin. My combination skin loves this product.
