As we
age, the sun
really does a number on our skin.
For the
longest time I
have suffered with these awful bruises on my forearms and hands. The skin gets
thin there and just a simple bump into something and there is my next bruise
for a week or so. Sometimes it gets so thin my skin would tear and bleed.
This is
a classic case of Purpura.
It is caused by years of sun exposure. Thin skin and weak blood vessels forces
you to wear long sleeves to hide these embarrassing purple/dark discolorations.
Traditional
Retinol which is
chemically made, does work somewhat, but the side effects are almost worse than
the cure. Nature gives us a natural version which has been proven to work identically
to chemically derived Retinol. We use: Bakuchiol Extract. Of course, with all

INGREDIENTS:
Reverse
Osmosis Purified Water. We
use the purest form of water to extract our herbs into. This is more than an
extract. It is called a decoction. We marry herbs and pure water together
using heat off and on and several days standing to make sure all their benefits
are fully absorbed into the water. Then we use that water to make our product.
Most companies use extracts extracted into alcohol. Since our bodies are mostly
water: we find alcohol to be less available for the skin to absorb.
The
Herbs:
Arnica,
also called Arnica montana, is
a plant that is native to the mountainous regions of Europe, southern Russia
and islands in the Mediterranean Sea. The flowers and leaves of this plant have
many traditional medicinal uses. It is well known as a treatment for bruises.
But all by itself, it isn’t enough.
Calendula is
a native of the Mediterranean countries. Calendula is a small, bushy,
cool-weather annual plant with light green, lance-shaped leaves and
yellow-orange flowers that can grow up to 3 inches in diameter. Calendula
helps heal bruises by reducing swelling, easing pain, and improving
blood flow to the injured skin.
Rutin is a bioflavonoid known for
antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and blood vessel-strengthening properties. It
is commonly found in buckwheat, citrus fruits, and apples.
St. John's Wort: comes from the
flowering plant [Hypericum
perforatum], native to Europe, western Asia, and North
Africa. The active parts of the herb are its yellow
flowers and upper stems When you
apply it topically, St. John's wort may
speed healing in certain conditions. These include bruises, wounds, varicose veins,
mild burns, and sunburns.
Sacha Inchi Oil. A precious
oil form South America. What we like about this oil is its ability to carry nutrients
deep into the skin. It’s one of the two fastest absorbing oils there is.
Zinc Oxide USP Non-Nano, at
only 5% works as a thickener and also gives the skin some protection from the
sun. SPF is not known and shouldn’t be solely relied upon during direct
sunlight exposure. It is best to use a good sunscreen. Sunscreens and sun blocks
that quote a SPF are considered drugs and we cannot sell drugs.
3% Bakuchiol Oil is extracted
from the Babchi plant that grows in India. It is well known to act as a Bio
version of a Retinol. Lab tests have shown it to be equally effective as
retinol without all the known side effects of the traditional chemically
derived Retinol.
3% Niacinamide is a form of vitamin B3
that helps
brighten skin tone, reduce redness, and control oil.
It works for almost all skin types to make the skin soft and healthy.
Emulsifying
wax, is a
vegetable wax used to marry oils and water. Oil and water don’t mix, but when
used together with this wax and heat they come together to form a cream. This
is a traditional form of making moisturizers. Trouble is, most store bought
moisturizers use thickeners instead. It’s much easier when you are making a
million jars at a time. But, we think this makes for a less quality product.
Cetyl
alcohol is also a
vegetable wax used to marry oil and water.
1% Helichrysum
Italicum Essential Oil is
considered a gold standard for skin bruises and ulcers. Some consider it a cure
all by itself for bruising. But must be diluted to use. At 1% this is the
perfect concentration. Helichrysum is an extremely versatile oil that is sometimes called the Super Arnica
of aromatherapy a highly desirable attribute
that makes it a most important inclusion in natural therapy first aid kits. Helichrysum italicum plant [Family: Asteraceae (Daisy)] that grows wild in the dry, often
rocky Mediterranean fields and mountains of Croatia. It is a stunningly
beautiful therapeutic essential oil that makes an excellent addition to skin
care formulas; its aroma is rich, herbaceous, honey-like bouquet with tea-like,
earthy undertones and possesses outstanding tenacity.
Germall plus is a simple plant
derived preservative which works at low percentages and can tolerate pH neutral
formulations.
Most skin care products
make their formulas acidic. Acidic formulas do extend the shelf life but here
is the controversy: The big companies tell us acid is good for the skin due to
some sort of ‘acid mantle’. But is it? Our
blood flows to and feeds every live skin cell in our body. The pH of our blood Ranges: 7.35 to 7.45 (slightly alkaline).
Even a slight deviation from this range can be deadly. Below 7 is acid. My skin
feels so good after a dip in the ocean (pH above 8) I just knew putting acids
on our skin wasn’t good.
(.75%) Vitamin
K: is oil soluble,
so it is first warmed into the Sacha Inchi oil before it is added to the mix. Topical
vitamin K is a
skincare ingredient mainly used to help reduce bruising, fade under-eye dark
circles, and calm skin redness. It supports blood
clotting and capillary health.
