MANGO
BUTTER SOAP
Why make
another soap? With
Natural soap the goal is to make a soap that lathers well yet isn’t drying to
the skin. So it is always a balancing act with choosing ingredients. Coconut
oil is the oil of choice for massive lather, but as it makes a lot of suds, it
dries the skin. Our thought was: why not make a coconut oil soap with a massive
amount of skin conditioners added in?
The skin conditioner
in theory, would counteract the drying effects of the coconut oil. But theory
is one thing, would it actually work in practice?
What
Conditioner to use? We
instantly thought of Mango Butter. The cosmetic and food industries
utilize mango butter as an ingredient and recognize the butter's high oxidative
stability. The unique properties of mango butter, coupled with the butter's
high level of non-saponifiables, make it a highly effective emollient. Many
cosmetic applications that utilize mango butter target dry, damaged and aging
skin. The main constituents of mango butter include vitamin A, vitamin C,
vitamin E, linoleic acid, oleic acid, and stearic acid. These vitamins and
essential fatty acids make mango butter a moisturizing, repairing, and
protecting skincare powerhouse.
BUT:
The first
batch came out so
hard we couldn’t cut it the usual way except chisel the bars apart. (they were
rough bars so we sent them out to be tested by our customers) The timelines for
making this are totally different from
our Shea Butter Soap. We did eventually figure out how to make it.
It’s more
expensive to make and it is so hard to cut we’re only offering it in 4 full big
bars. You can take a butcher knife and cut each bar in half if you like. It
seems to last longer too. We used a lot more Mango Butter than we do Shea
butter in our Shea Soap.
It’s the only
soap I use. Here are a couple of testers’ comments.
Hello,
With my
last order of face wash you sent a sample of a new soap. I think that is one of
the best soap you have made. At first I
thought it was a little drying, but now it is so moisturizing!! Are you going
to carry it all the time? I looked just a bit ago and didn't see it for sale
yet. I do have to say I have been using your face wash, lotion and soap for
years, I'm thinking at least 18 years. Thank you for making great products!
Vicki
Good
morning!
Along
with my last order, you sent me a sample of your new soap and asked for my
opinion. I apologize for not remembering the name of your wonderful soap.
I love
your new soap! When I opened the package, the soap sent a fresh, clean breeze
my way. It lathers wonderfully and feels so smooth on my skin. Did you put
moisturizer in this soap? After rinsing, my skin feels soft and clean with no
residue. I've been using it every day for a week, and the bar is not getting
smaller. I'm sure you don't use fragrance, but how in the world did you get
this soap to smell like fresh air and sunshine? I can't describe how wonderful
my skin feels. This is my new favorite, and I can't wait to buy it! Tina
It is
basically just Coconut Oil and (a lot of) Mango Butter with a bit of water to help
with the Saponification. There is no fragrance added. It is very hard and feels
like a French hard milled soap. But those soaps don’t lather readily. This will
lather even if you have hard water. And yes it seems to last longer than our
Shea soap.
If you have
been told you have an allergy to Mango, chances are it is to the skin of the
mango fruit. This butter comes from the seed.
